Phils Fantasy Sports
(Maximum Sports Channels – Phil Naessens
) There are 15 games on the main MLB
slate at FanDuel
tonight. Coors Field isn’t in play tonight but the Rockies travel to Arizona to play the Diamondbacks and just as expected Vegas is expecting a Coors type run potential. At the time of this writing there doesn’t seem to be any weather issues tonight but you should always consider the weather and I use this site for this.

Starting Pitching Options
With 30 pitchers on the slate there are plenty to choose from. I’ve narrowed my plays down to three for tonight at FanDuel.
Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer ($11,600) has a nice opportunity tonight at home against a New York Mets offense with a 21 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of .275 and wRC+ of 72 against righties this season. Scherzer is currently striking out 31 percent of the hitters he’s faced while striking out 10.73 hitters per nine innings. Solid 2.94 SIERA and xFIP of 3.37 this season and as you might expect he is the top option on tonight’s slate.
San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija ($8700) has a good opportunity tonight against a San Diego Padres offense with a 26 strikeout rate, .291 wOBA and wRC+ of 81 against righties this season. Samardzija is striking out 27.5 percent of the hitters he’s faced averaging 11.10 strikeouts per nine innings pitched. Good SIERA of 3.26 with an xFIP of 2.86 this season and he is definitely another pitcher worthy of consideration tonight against the Padres.
Los Angeles Angels SP Tyler Skaggs ($7900) has a good opportunity tonight against a Texas Rangers offense with a 24 percent strikeout rate, .267 wOBA and wRC+ of 65 against lefties this season. Skaggs is currently striking out 22 percent of the hitters he’s faced and is averaging 8.51 strikeouts per nine innings. Decent 4.03 SIERA and xFIP of 4.17 this season and Skaggs is another pitcher I will be considering for tonight.
Stacking Options for Tonight
Obviously the Colorado Rockies against the Arizona Diamondbacks game is in play tonight. The Rockies are currently fifth in baseball against lefties while the Diamondbacks are currently ranked 17th against southpaws. I’ll leave it up to you on who which player or players you will select, if any from this ballgame.
I suppose if I was going to stack a team or teams tonight I would probably choose the Chicago White Sox game against the Detroit Tigers. I particularly like Tigers C Alex Avila ($2700), Justin Upton ($3600) and Tyler Collins ($2400) tonight and from the White Sox I like Todd Frazier ($3600), Jose Abreu ($3200), Tyler Saladino ($3100) and Avisail Garcia ($3800) tonight.
Phil’s Top Three Plays of the Night
Los Angeles Angels OF Mike Trout ($5000) has a good opportunity tonight against Rangers rightie Nick Martinez. This season Trout has a .452 wOBA and wRC+ of 208 against right handed pitchers whereas Martinez offers a sample size too small to matter much to me other than his less than seven strikeouts per nine innings.
Atlanta Braves OF Matt Kemp ($3700) has a good opportunity tonight against the Brewers right hander Chase Anderson who seems to have trouble with right handed bats allowing one bomb, five walks with a 4.08 xFIP against right handed bats. On the other hand Kemp has a .436 wOBA and wRC+ of 171 in 41 plate appearances against righties this season.
Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado ($3300) has a nice opportunity tonight against Yankees leftie C.C. Sabathia. In 26 plate appearances this season Machado has a wOBA of .332 and wRC+ of 114 whereas Sabathia strikes out just over five strikeouts per nine innings, 1.40 bombs per nine and a 4.98 xFIP against right handed bats this season.
Good luck at FanDuel tonight!!
