Phil’s Fantasy Sports: Fantasy Baseball Mailbag #1 – Tanaka, Bailey And More

) Hey Fantasy Baseball
Owners! I receive plenty of mail here at Phil’s Fantasy Sports so today I though I would take some time to answer some of these today and will continue to do so each and every Thursday at Phil’s Fantasy Sports!
What am I to do about Homer Bailey?
Thanks for the question. I have him on one of my rosters also so I feel your pain. You drop him is what you do. Bailey was just placed on the 60 day disabled list so that means he’s done for a long time. He can’t help you anytime soon and even if I could place him on the DL I doubt that I would because at some point I’ll need that spot and would have to drop him anyway.
Is the Kansas City Royals Paolo Orlando worth taking a flyer on in a 12 team head to head league?
Thanks for the question. I suppose the best answer to your question would be to try and figure out when Alex Rios is returning from injury. Since he’s returning sometime in or around the middle of May Orlando might be an option until then. He’s been really hot but let’s face it; it’s doubtful he can keep this up for very much longer. His 78 percent contact rate and 20 percent strikeout rate keeps me away and I think there are better more long term OF solutions like Dexter Fowler of the Cubs (50 percent owned) Juan Lagares of the Mets (23 percent owned) or even Odubel Herrera of the Phillies (43 percent owned). There are plenty of other more suitable options also. All you have to do is spend a couple hours searching the waiver wire and you will see what I mean.
What would you do if you owned Masihiro Tanaka of the Yankees?
Thanks for the question. I suppose he is one of those pitchers that is worth waiting for. The question for me is “how long”. Yankees GM Brian Cashner says Tanaka will be out a month and that’s being conservative. It’s doubtful that you could trade him so you’ll have to either DL him, leave him on the roster and keep your fingers crossed or cut bait and let him become someone else’s problem. More than likely I would probably keep him for a month and if he isn’t back by then and there is no definite prognosis I would more than likely cut bait and run.
