Phils Fantasy Sports

(Maximum Sports Channels – Phil Naessens) We receive our share of Fantasy Sports questions at Phil’s Fantasy Sports with the most being of the Fantasy Basketball variety. I have something this week that might just help you to prepare for this season’s draft, so let’s get to it.

Dear Fantasy Phil,

Could you please share your top ten point guards and what round you think they will be drafted in if you were to be drafting in a ten team head to head league?

Thanks for the question;

Here is my top ten as of October 3rd, 2016;

1) Russell Westbrook; He’s a triple double threat every time he steps on the floor and is the number one option for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Last season Westbrook recorded 54 double doubles and 18 triple doubles. He will either be the number one or two pick in most drafts this season.

2) James Harden: The Houston Rockets star is duel eligible (PG, SG) and that kind of flexibility plus his 23 double doubles and three triple doubles last season makes him an easy number two choice for me but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him drafted number one in some leagues.

3) Stephen Curry: Curry might be the two time NBA MVP but he’s not a Fantasy Basketball MVP by any stretch of the imagination. Last season Curry recorded 15 double doubles and two triple doubles. He’ll get his every night, drop a few dimes and get a steal or two with extremely high shooting percentages. He’s surely a top ten pick and maybe even top 5 but that might be a stretch.

4) Chris Paul: Last season Paul recorded 38 double doubles without a triple double. That’s still good enough for me and I see him going in the latter half of the first round. For the third season in a row Paul has averaged a double double and has excellent shooting percentages to go along with a couple of steals a night.

That’s four point guards right there who I believe will be taken in the first round of most drafts and probably every draft in a ten team league no matter what the league rules are. Let’s see where I think the rest of my top ten point guards might be taken.

5) Damian Lillard: Last season Portland Trail Blazers PG Damian Lillard was outstanding leading his team to the playoffs. During the season Lillard recorded 15 double doubles and had career highs in points (25.1) and assists (6.8). Lillard also possesses solid shooting numbers all the way around and more than likely will be an early second round pick in a ten team league and late first round pick in leagues larger than ten teams.

6) John Wall: Last season Wall recorded 49 double doubles and four triple doubles for the Washington Wizards. Last season Wall also had career highs in just about every category and solid shooting percentages. I see wall going in the middle of the second round of just about every 10 team draft and early to mid-second round for leagues with more than ten teams.

7) Kyrie Irving: Irving missed about half the season due to an injury but did return to record one double double and is solid in the shooting categories. Irving should be fully healthy this season and play at least 75 games and I see him going in the late second round of most 10 team drafts and early to mid-second round of leagues larger than ten teams.

You see that? There are seven PG’s that most likely will be taken in the first two rounds so if you want to build your team around a PG you had better act fast otherwise you will be left with (8) Kyle Lowry, (9)Kemba Walker or (10) Isaiah Thomas who I see as late second round to early third round picks.

Good luck this season Fantasy Basketball owner!
