(Maximum Sports Channels – Carlos Ortega
) This week I will review the action in the UEFA Champions League
and who gets a spot in the Champions League Round of 16.
Anderlecht vs AC Milan 1-3: I am happy that Milan wins but the performance was not that good actually. First, boasting is useless. Second, Milan players are so lazily handling the ball, every player just stands or walks, so it is hard to coordinate an organized attack (each player rarely made runs to leave their marker). You can see that in that Anderlecht dominated on their possessions even when they are one man down. I really think Milan needs a different coach because they have very good players; a better coach can increase the motivation of the team. Montolivo is not enough for the midfield, Milan needs help here. I am worried that with Anderlecht having more possessions and more frequently challenging and pushing, this makes me question the way Milan is playing. Well I hope Milan does better. I feel like this is the first time that Pato, Boa, Bojan and El Shaarawy, all speedy attackers/wingers, finally combined well, especially Pato and El Shaarawy. During the red card incident, it was an intelligent run by El Shaarawy, as this convinced the referee that it was a clear goal-scoring opportunity. El Shaarawy is becoming a symbol of this new-look Milan but again Allegri should not change Konstant at all. Pato is becoming less engaged every day. KPB needs to approach the game with more balance and increase his passing, he cannot last like this forever. In a game where Milan should have dominated, the attacking department took the day off. Good job anyway Milan you got a spot in the last 16.
Ajax vs Dortmund 1-4: Dortmund has displayed that they are ready. Great team to watch and great individual players. Amazing performances that guaranteed them a spot in the Champions League Round of 16, and in my opinion they deserve to be top of the group. The loss ends Ajax’s chances of advancing in the Champions League, but they’ll still have a chance to claim a Europa League place in the final match day in two weeks.
Arsenal v Montpellier 2-0: Wilshere is probably the man of the match. Yet, he is humble enough to say the this was not a performance to be proud of. There is always something wrong with the Arsenal passing game and combination in the first 15-20 minutes of every match I have watched. This has been a chronic phenomenon. No passing training before the match or what?? Why is noone addressing this matter ? Arsenal was not good enough against Montpellier and they will need to step up their performances for the next round of the Champion League. Congratulations Arsenal, they booked its place in the last 16. But they need to sharpen their game.
Manchester City vs Real Madrid 1-1: Real Madrid. The best counterattacking team in the world, thanks to Mourinho. I could not believe how often Ronaldo was hacked down with not even a caution for Kompany or Zabaleta. Ronaldo had some great moments, but he went missing for about half the game. I felt that Callejon has not been as good as he was last season and Kaka should play more frequently, considering that he has more experience than Madrid’s entire team. Modric was not at his best, but how can a central midfielder have so few touches of the ball? On the other hand, Xabi Alonso controlled everything when Madrid had the ball and Arbeloa also did a surprisingly good job, until he was sent off. Manchester City must get rid of Mancini. Unfortunately, he showed how weak he is as a coach. Dzeko really was not very good (too slow to move the ball, lots of bad touches that lost the possession for City), but Nasri and Maicon were even worse. And Garcia was nothing to write home about. In fact, Garcia might be the worst Spanish midfielder. David Silva was easily the most creative player on the field, while Aguero is always the most dangerous. They are the best Manchester City players. Nevertheless, Congratulations to Real Madrid, they deserve their spot in the last 16.
We will be starting up the weekly Field View Radio broadcast on MSC any day now, so keep a watchful eye out for the schedule.
