) The Fantasy Basketball season begins Tuesday October 28, 2014 with three games on tap. Here is some advice as we head into week number one of the Fantasy Basketball season.
Pay attention to the schedule: This week the Lakers, Heat and Magic each have four games. Denver has only two and teams in the rest of the League each have three games this week. If you are looking to the waiver wire for a streaming option or to fill an injury you might want to look at players from the Heat, Magic or Lakers before looking somewhere else.
Check your league rules: Some leagues allow for daily changes while others require you to fill out your weekly lineup before the first scheduled game of the week. It’s always better to be safe rather than sorry so check your league rules otherwise you might wind up losing match-up you would otherwise win.
Check lineups one hour before tipoff: This is important and especially important for those of you playing Daily Fantasy games at sites like FanDuel. You want to do your utmost to make sure that every player on your roster is actually playing otherwise you’ll wind up donating rather than winning cash.
Watch teams with back to back games: Early as well as late in the season coaches like to rest players especially on the second game of a back to back. San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich is infamous for sitting players so if you have any Spurs named Duncan on your roster you’d better double check before the tipoff to see if he’s playing or not. It all goes back to paying attention to the schedule.
Here are a couple of waiver wire options for you to consider this week.
Carlos Boozer PF Lakers: I’m reaching here on week one but I like to give the players with the most opportunities a look and Boozer fits the mold. The Lakers have four games this week, they are already injury riddled and Boozer will or at least should be a great source of rebounds and points with the occasional block and steal. He’s currently 61 percent owned in ESPN leagues so grab Boozer while you can.
Wesley Johnson PG SG SF Lakers: Johnson will begin the season starting at the small forward spot and with four games this week he might be a viable option. Hopefully Johnson won’t turn the ball over that much but even if he does the Lakers don’t have many other options currently. Johnson should be a good source of three pointers and possibly a steal or two. Johnson is currently 2 percent owned in ESPN Leagues.
Maurice Harkless SF Magic: Harkless is undervalued and underappreciated but when he’s on he can help your Fantasy team. At least for this week He’ll start at small forward and if this preseason is any indication of things to come look for good contributions straight across the boards in all scoring categories. Harkless is currently less than 1% owned.
Good luck this week Fantasy Basketball owner!
