Spendthrift Farm freshman sire Race Day was represented by his first winner on Saturday when his 2-year-old filly Gee She Sparkles won on debut at Lone Star Park in a maiden special weight race.

Campaigned by owners GFB Racing and trainer Danny Pish, the gray filly took over on the turn and drew away with authority in the stretch, widening her margin with every stride to win going away by 10 1/2 lengths. She stopped the clock in 59.56 seconds for five furlongs over a fast local main track.

Bred by Inside Move, Gee She Sparkles is out of the Indian Charlie mare Pata Fresca.

Race Day retired to Spendthrift with six career wins including his biggest in the Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap and a track-record-setting performance in Keeneland's Grade 2 Fayette Stakes. By leading sire Tapit, Race Day hails from the More Than Ready mare Rebalite, who's a half-sister to the Kentucky Oaks winner and four-time Grade 1-winning filly, Lite Light.

Race Day has been well represented at the sales with his first-crop 2-year-olds. Earlier this week, his top colt sold for $170,000 at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. June Sale of 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. Earlier this year, his top filly – named Josie – sold for $170,000 at the OBS March sale and was recently second on debut in a maiden special weight at Churchill.

Race Day, who's standing for a fee of $6,000 S&N, is one of six freshman sires that are participating in the “Safe Bet” program – Spendthrift's new breeding program for 2019.
