. This week we will be reporting on lots of action in the world of soccer and as usually we will talk about the best matches played. So let’s get started !!!
Las Palmas vs Real Madrid 1-2 (La Liga): Keylor Navas has been Madrid’s best player this season, hands down. He has saved them so many points, if not for him Madrid would probably be in 4th. Overall not good enough and credit to Las Palmas for playing well and making it difficult, but I’ll take all 3 points. Real Madrid absolutely has to improve more when playing away from home and with El Clásico looming they can’t afford to play like this and make silly mistakes at the Camp Nou, otherwise don’t be surprised if another hammering occurs. Shoutout to Casemiro (congrats to his 1st La Liga goal), Modric, Ramos, and Vásquez for a good performance. Shoutout to the man of the match Keylor Navas for an excellent goal keeping display. Now onto the next game against a much bigger team Sevilla. As I always said, Zidane is a tactically clueless coach. Most of the away games you have won is all due to spectacular individual efforts and not because of Zidane’s tactical brilliance. Sevilla game is going to be a tough one particularly with no Ramos and Pepe. Defense is a bigger issue then attack and this will be highlighted In the match against Sevilla. No Ramos and no Pepe will mean a shaky back line especially if Danilo plays over Carvajal. Real Madrid will probably still win but it will go to show that zidane needs to fix his back line. I can’t wait for El Classico. But I have to say this is probably the worst Madrid team I have seen in decades.
Arsenal vs Watford 1-2 (FA CUP): First 20 minutes, Arsenal played with pace and purpose and created some excellent chances. For the next 60 minutes, they seemed to switch off, let Watford back into the game, and give up up two goals on a defensive lapse and a bullet into the near post upper corner. For the next 16 minutes, they play with desperation against a completely packed in defense, score once, and miss a wide open net to tie. I think that sums up their season pretty well.
Arsenal only have themselves to blame for this disappointing result and they should have scored and taken their chances. I think Wenger should have made the substitutions early on, but besides that Arsenal defended poorly and didn’t look like they had enough belief or desire to win this game. Credit to Watford though for working hard as a unit and taking their chances when it mattered. From what I saw at this game, Arsenal lack character and that hunger to win every game at all costs. All I can say is good luck and with the way they played in this game, Barcelona is going to be an absolute nightmare for them at the Camp Nou.
Everton vs Chelsea 2-0 (FA Cup): Worst I have seen Chelsea this year, I almost turned off after the team went 1-0 down. I knew this would happen. Courtois has gone missing, I keep saying this, he’s just clueless, nowhere near the ball anymore, and his distribution is so bad, he has started underarm passes to Mikel standing at top of their own box. I never thought I would miss Cech this much this soon but Courtois is just horrid lately. Begovic should be starting from here on.
Let’s be honest, Chelsea was better over the past 2 seasons. The players went a couple notches down and the coach suggested it to the board and could not listen to any of it. The result was players felt they had support from the board so the players took it upon themselves to uproot what they thought was the problem. Well it gave them a temporary if not a misleading result. Moving on Chelsea needs to identify a coach who understands the Chelsea way of doing things not an easy task though. Secondly, give the coaches control and assurances that he has control with no interference from the board. Lastly give the coach a couple of seasons to stabilize.
Barcelona vs Getafe 6-0 (La Liga): Great win. Glad Neymar scored, he seemed to be a little off the last few games. Messi, as usual, was amazing (except for that penalty.). Munir has 6 goals in his last 6 games, it’s great that he’s started scoring more and hopefully builds up his confidence. 37 games being unbeaten is phenomenal and it looks like the record might keep on extending for the weeks to come. The whole team played well and Messi was the man of the match for me with a great display of his play-making ability and a great goal. Neymar was second best and finished clinically, but he got selfish when he tried to get the hat trick instead of passing to Munir. There’s not much to worry about for Barcelona, but like I said earlier it’s worrisome that they struggle so much from the penalty spot. Though you guys do score them when it matters, it might be more troublesome if Barca are to ever have a penalty shootout, so I think you guys have to practice them. Besides that, well done and can’t wait for El Clásico.
