) Welcome back to Field View. This week we will talk about the most exciting matches in the Europa League and also about the finals of the Mexican League.
Barcelona vs Deportivo Alaves 3-1: About Barca overall, the only thing they need to improve on is their defensive techniques. With Puyol and Pique around, they still concede the same kind of avoidable goals, the same way they do with Macherano and Song as Center Backs. Barca has too many possessions that become far too comfortable for the center backs to play the ball around and move up in attack. When suddenly the possession is lost, the opposition counter attacks, it is always a panic reaction from the defense and this why Barca is punished mostly from counters and setup plays. If only they can come up with a way of attacking and maintaining control while curbing counter attacks and setup plays. Barca will be more like a perfect team and it will be very hard to beat them.
Stoke vs Newcastle 2-1: About Stoke, terrible result, but not unexpected considering Stoke’s performance. I’m getting very, very concerned now. I’m starting to wonder is Pardew is the right man to manage this team. I thought Newcastle looked by far the better team. Newcastle played with purpose and the team looked tenacious, well balanced and sharp up top. I was delighted to see them knock the points though, and the contribution of subs Kenwynne and Cameron was top class. Not the best night they have had, but a welcome 3 points against Stoke, were certainly on top for 75 minutes.
Wigan vs Manchester City 0-2: Wigan played well and made it very hard for City with their pressing. They had one great chance (Kone header) and a couple of half chances but failed to take them. City took their chances so they deserved to win. It is that simple. Gomez dived and Barry’s penalty shot was much the stronger of the two. Mancini‘s tactics were the key to this game, and that includes leaving Aguero and Balotelli on the pitch. Sadly, Milner is injured again, every time he looks like nailing down a regular place he gets injured. He will be a badly missed in the derby if he does not make it back. Garcia had an awful game but he cannot be as bad as he looks can he?. Hopefully he finds his feet soon but he cannot be risked in the next two games. It looks like it is just going be City and United going for title now, really I cannot wait for the Manchester Derby. It is going to be a massive game.
Everton vs Arsenal 1-1: The second half was real bad. They were very lucky to get that point. I would like to see some killer instinct in the last 8 minutes when Everton was tired from all that pressing for some counter. Do not get me wrong, Everton was exceptional but Arsenal is showing no hunger to win or close out the game. Arsenal’s performance was too lazy and they had too many mistakes too.
Manchester United vs West Ham 1-0: Anderson was the star of the match along with Rafael! Rooney did his job as always, but was a bit unlucky not to score. Cleverly fits well in that system and when Kagawa comes back I think Rooney should play a little more in the striker position. Congratulations to Manchester United.
Toluca vs Tijuana: This match is the final in the Mexican League. The first leg of the Xolos Tijuana vs Toluca liguilla final will take place at Estadio Caliente in Tijuana. The second leg and final game of the Apertura 2012 season will be on Sunday, December 2 at the Estadio Nemesio Diez in Toluca. The first leg of this final will be a tough match-up between two teams that focus on the counter-attack system. Toluca and Xolos have been the best two teams throughout the season, and what separates them is a better Toluca offense and a superior Xolos defense. The away goal does not make a difference in the final, so expect Toluca to play defensively. Beware Toluca, I am sure the game will be tied but Tijuana can give us a surprise.
