(Maximum Sports Channels – Carlos Ortega
) Welcome to Field View, this week we are going to focus in the semi-final UEFA Champions League
. We are going to recap the successful performances and some performances the players and teams would rather forget.
Borussia Dortmund vs Real Madrid 4-1 (UEFA Champions League): What a match! It’s even more impressive than Bayern’s victory. These are young players who have been built by Dortmund, not a group of stars that were purchased from other teams. On the other hand, Madrid needs to pay maximum attention to Dortmund’s left side that is where the greatest danger is. Madrid should have been better in every aspect of their game but they were not, unfortunately. I do not agree with benching Di Maria, they could have really used him to keep the wing backs. To play Pepe against a team with so much movement was not wise, (this is not an excuse, people should realize, as I do, that right and wrong decisions are all part of the game). Varane can play as right back so the line up will be Varane Ramos Pepe Fabio (admittedly Ramos-Pepe work better than Varane-Pepe but Varane Ramos is most effective). You can argue Ramos Arbeloe but that benches Varane unless you subscribe to the idea of Varane playing on the right wing. I have to congratulate Dortmund. They deserved to win and they really taught Real Madrid how to play as a TEAM.
Bayern Munich vs Barcelona 4-0 (UEFA Champions League): First of all, congratulations to Bayern Munich! They obviously deserve the win and probably should win the champions league. Bayern is a beast team, great organization, great in the air, great passing, fast, and strong. Clearly they are a well balanced team, full of solid defenders, mid-fielders, and forwards and no other team has a complete line-up like them. That being said, I still believe that Barca has a great style of playing soccer. Some of you claim that possession doesn’t win games and that’s totally true. But it doesn’t automatically mean that is inferior and it doesn’t work. It does work, only if a team has good enough players to execute this style successfully. And clearly, Barca doesn’t have the players or at least enough players at moment. Of course, Barca’s defense is pathetic. In the midfield, Iniesta is the only there can cause real damage because Xavi is past his prime and is getting too old and Sergio Busquets doesn’t even come close to the skills of those two. Lastly in the top, Messi’s skills are phenomenal, but needs better forwards to aid him in the attack and villa and Sanchez just don’t cut it and Pedro is good but isn’t consistent. So, all Barca is left with is a great soccer style with an incomplete team and the only thing they can turn to is Messi but he is injured. So there is no excuse for this weak performance from Barcelona, I mean, they are a great team right? So one player is not the whole team right? They should remember this when they play the second leg. They deserved the result. Congrats Bayern, wish they win the Champions League, They are on fire right now.
It may be only half time in both of the semi-final ties but I think we might be witnessing a change in the balance of power in European football. What Dortmund has done to Madrid was exactly what Bayern has done to Barca! They outplayed them, frustrated them and refused to be intimidated by them. Well done to both of them and I hope that they can maintain their advantage in the return legs.
