. This week we will be reporting on lots of action in the world of soccer and as usually we will talk about the best matches played. So let’s get started !!!
Barcelona vs Sevilla 5-4 (UEFA Champions League): This game was a sweet dream that turned into a nightmare for Barca. Honestly though this game has to be one of the best finals ever. It has everything. Great individual goals, great team goals, unbelievable comeback, and some terrible defending. Barcelona looked decent in attack. Rafinha covered well for Neymar. But Matheiu definitely did not do a good job. They definitely missed Alba’s pace on the left flank and he ability to get back into defensive positions quickly. Iniesta has proved all his detractors wrong in this match. He controlled the game and was an important factor. After his injury Suarez and Messi were out of the game and they didn’t get many balls. Iniesta has shown he was an irreplaceable member along with Messi.
A win is a win. But overall, that was a terrible match for Barcelona, or maybe a bad second half. Horrible defending and they were extremely lucky to escape a loss at a certain moment. It’s still the beginning, but from what I’ve seen Bartra is disappointing and Mathieu as LB isn’t really a big deal. For Barca, it was a terrible final 30 minutes. They played like a pro in the first 60 minute and look unstoppable. It’s easy to blame the defense for this but honestly, the whole team became complacent after going 4-1 up. The midfield went to sleep and the offense stopped pressing. Everyone relaxed and left the defending to the defense, and that’s not good. They defend as a team not just with 4 guys. Another thing is their bench is really weak. Iniesta substitution also showed how weak their bench is because Roberto is not a game changer in a tough match. Nevertheless, Barcelona escaped with a win but I can say they better not make the same mistakes against Bilbao and they better play full 90 minute against Sevilla next time they play them. Last season, I had excuses for the 2-2 draw even though they were 2-0 up after half time but after today, I realize Sevilla is a fighter. I love their mentality. Good game from Sevilla but they seriously need to fix their defense.
Manchester City vs West Brom 3-0 (Premier League): City met all their objectives. Got a nice boost from Fernandinho, who probably wasn’t ready for a full match, putting in a quality effort. City needs to get healthy in the center midfield. Hopefully Fernando and Delph can return as soon as the Chelsea match. It is a little too much to ask for Yaya and Fernandinho to be the only two healthy CMs at the this moment. No upset here today, very comfortable game for City. I think Coutinho has a real challenge for goal of the week now in Toure’s goal. Remove Bony and Navas and add Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne to this starting lineup today and City can compete with the best of them. I think Aguero may start on the bench next Sunday vs Chelsea. Like last season, Aguero came off the bench in the first two matches. I think Pellegrini has the same plans this time around as well. West Brom looks like the poorest team so far this season. Absolutely no talent or desire shown, they look relegation bound and they know it. That Chelsea vs City game this weekend is going to be a real hot ticket.
Arsenal vs West Ham 0-2 (Premiership): Same old Arsenal. Promise so much but deliver so little. I don’t know why some people thought this current team is capable of winning the league. I believe this happens because of the following mistakes. Playing Santi out wide and Ramsey centrally along Coq. Why would Wenger chose to change a working formula on opening day?? Result, Santi was ineffective and Ramsey drifted too forward. This isolated Coq who showed his limited passing abilities giving the ball away frequently. With Santi by his side all he needs to do is make a 5-10 foot pass and Santi can orchestrate. And another mistake was starting Giroud over Walcott. Every time their attackers pressed WR could not slip a through ball, instead the team had to play to Giroud’s slow feet. No threat at all. Allowed West Hams defense clogged the middle. Other observations, Ozil was weak, West Ham played him physically and he just disappeared. Hollywood Ramsey is so selfish. He just wants the glory goal, he should have passed to Debuchy on the overlap but instead tries the low percentage shot.
A good wake up call to Arsenal. Still need a quality striker. Both Giroud and Walcott don’t cut it. Competition for Coq would be good to. Someone with steel but also better passing ability. Credit to West Ham they were clinical this game. And for Arsenal, who are title challengers, they looked far from it this game, as they were playing not to lose rather than playing to win.
