PBA Spare Shots: Kris Prather Discusses PBA Playoffs Victory in New PBA Player’s Perspective Interview

PBA Player’s Perspective, a series of YouTube interviews with PBA title winners reflecting on their victories in selected title matches, continues on Tuesday, Nov. 5, when Kris Prather of Plainfield, Ill., explains what was going through his mind when the won the inaugural PBA Playoffs in Portland, Maine.

NICK PATE, RAFIQ ISMAIL INVITED TO WORLD BOWLING TOUR FINALS
PBA members Nick Pate of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., representing the Pan American zone, and Malaysia’s Rafiq Ismail, representing the Asian Zone, have been invited to participate in the 2019 World Bowling Tour Men’s Finals along with European Zone representative Arnard David Jonsson. Those three will join the top six male points leaders in World Bowling Tour for 2019 in the WBT Finals in Kuwait on Nov. 7.

The top five men, along with the top five women in WBT points, will be determined at the conclusion of the PBA-WBT Kuwait Open on Nov. 6. In the wake of his U.S. Open victory, Canada’s Francois Lavoie has taken the men’s points lead. The top five heading into the Kuwait Open, with current points in parenthesis, are: Lavoie (1,384); Anthony Simonsen (1,344); U.S. Open runner-up Sean Rash (1,272); AJ Johnson (1,268); Kyle Sherman (1,256), and Jakob Butturff and Jason Belmonte, who are tied with 1,240 points.

The women’s points leaders heading into the U.S. Open were Danielle McEwan (2,192); Liz Johnson (2,084); Tannya Roumimper (1,720); Clara Guerrero (1,248); and Missy Parkin (1,184) and Maria Jose Rodriguez (1,084). Women invited to represent their respective zones are Guerrero (Pan American Zone), Women invited to represent their respective zones are Guerrero (Pan American Zone), Singapore’s Cherie Tan (Asian Zone) and Sweden’s Anna Andersson, European Zone.

Both the Kuwait Open and WBT Men’s and Women’s Finals will be livestreamed on Nov. 6 and 7, respectively, on dailymotion.com.

PBA REGIONAL UPDATE: HATTORI, WILSON, KLOEMPKEN WIN AT SOUTH POINT
Zach Hattori and partner Ari Wilson,  both from Henderson, Nev., teamed up to win Sunday’s PBA South Point Member/Non-Member Doubles title at South Point Bowling Plaza after fellow non-PBA member Steve Kloempken of Pleasant Valley, Utah, won the South Point West Challenge portion of the PBA West Region doubleheader on Friday.

In the preliminary singles event open to non-PBA title winners, Kloempken, a former Team USA member who currently is Storm Products Vice President of Marketing, was perfect in defeating Deo Benard of Rio Rancho, N.M., 300-217, to earn the $2,000 first prize.

Kloempken knocked out another non-member, Kyle Duster of La Habra, Calif., 236-192, in the semifinal round while Benard eliminated Lanndyn Carnate of Modesto, Calif., 279-236, to set up the championship match.

In Sunday’s doubles title match, Hattori and Wilson defeated Cortez Schenck of Phoenix, Ariz. and Eric Hatchett of Las Vegas, 458-414, to claim the $4,000 first prize.

Hattori and Wilson advanced to the title match by eliminating Curtis Woods of Santa Rosa, Calf. and Josh Blanchard of Mesa, Ariz., 482-459, while Schenck and Hatchett ousted Ramsey Basurto of Lancaster, Calif., and Tim Cagle II of Hercules, Calif. 435-423, in the other semifinal match.

Kloempken, Hattori and Wilson are all non-members so none of the three receive credit for a PBA title.

• A busy schedule of events is on tap for November as the PBA Regional program starts to wrap up the 2019 season, beginning this weekend. On the schedule are the PBA-PBA50 Callahan’s Bowling for Gold Over-Under Doubles presented by TechVision at Callahan’s Bowl O Rama in Newington, Conn.; the PBA-PBA50 Decker Appraisal Services Doubles presented by Hammer at Interstate Bowl in Bristol, Va.; the Mesa East Open presented by Columbia 300 at Mesa East Bowl in Mesa, Ariz., and the one-day Ft. Wayne Central-Midwest Open at Pro Bowl West in Ft. Wayne, Ind.

• The Nov. 8-10 calendar of PBA Regional activity includes the La-Z-Boy Central Challenge for non-title winners at Monroe Sports Center in Monroe, Mich.; the Plaza Bowl Midwest Open presented by Roto Grip in Clinton, Iowa, and the Gastonia South Open presented by Brunswick at George Pappas’ Liberty Lanes in Gastonia, N.C.

—• On the Nov. 15-17 PBA Regional weekend schedule are the PBA50 Bryan’s Bowling Center Eastern Open presented by 900 Global in Laurel, Del.; the PBA50 PLYGEM Windows Rocky Mount South Open at Rocky Mount Bowling Center in Rocky Mount, Va., and the Japan Region’s High Sports Cup Chameleon Open at Kashima Bowl in Kashima, Japan.

—• On the pre-Thanksgiving Day weekend schedule, Nov. 22-24, is the PBA50 Allstate Central Match Classic at Westland Bowl in Westland, Mich.; the Break Point Alley Member/Non-Member Doubles in Tavares, Fla., and the PBA and PBA50 Epicenter Northwest-West Open tournaments in Klamath Falls, Ore.

• The only PBA Regional tournament over the Nov. 29-Dec. 1 Thanksgiving weekend will be the PBA50 Beaumont Southwest Open at Crossroads Bowling Center in Beaumont, Texas.

• The PBA Regional program concludes its 2019 season with a pair of tournaments over the Dec. 6-8 weekend: the Knob Hill East Challenge at Knob Hill Country Lanes in Manalapan, N.J., and the Warren Harley-Davidson Central Challenge at Freeway Lanes of Warren, Ohio. Both “challenge” tournaments are open exclusively to non-title winners.
